Be the Chef You Want to Be: Learn Some Good Tricks
There could be some people that are meant to be chefs. However, if they don’t take the necessary steps to improve their craft, the average ones can definitely catch up, leaving the acers behind.
If you want to be the best in the field, you need to develop techniques and great cooking tips. These are the things that you’re going to learn today:
1. Get rid of lumps in gravies. A lot of the dishes are enhanced by their sauces, gravies, and dressing. Just think of the usual fried chicken. You can add spice and a little oomph through the brown gravy. But there’s a problem. Especially if you have not taken the time to stir the gravy while you’re making it, it will develop bubbles or lumps.
To avoid them, you should drain the sauces or gravies using a strainer. Ensure that the holes are very fine, so you can really separate the lump parts of the gravy. Do this before you serve them to your guests.
2. Don’t throw stalks and skins away. You may be used to throwing stalks of celeries or broccolis and the peelings of carrots and onions away. But do you know that you can actually still utilize them? You can add them to a broth or soup. The flavor can still remain into the stalks and skins. This way, you end up reducing your cooking costs, and you don’t end up adding more waste into your bin.
3. Use wax paper on your cake. There are just times when you can’t immediately remove the cake from your pan. Of course, you also cannot just use fork or any other fine point, or you may end up destroying the sides of your creation. What you can do is to place the cake back into the warm oven for a short time. By then, the warmth of its environment will loosen up the stickiness, and you can easily remove the cake then without any hassle.
4. Make the pie glow. Do you know what makes pies very appealing to eat? It’s not really the taste (it takes a while before they can judge the food based on its taste). It’s on how the pie looks. If it’s certainly glowing (one with the glossy finish), people would assume that it’s definitely rich in flavor and moist. Here’s the trick on how to do that: brush some beaten eggs on top of the crust of the pie before you start baking.
5. Extend the life of milk. Milk, sad to say, has a short shelf life. Worse, it can become such a huge waste if you still have a lot of them in your refrigerator, and you’re just waiting for the right time to use them. You can extend the life of the milk, though, by adding a dash of salt. Make sure that it’s not a lot to avoid turning the taste of milk to salty. The salt will eventually reduce the production of bacteria in the milk.
