Knowing these beforehand can help you decide on what culinary course will you be taking. The following are the different jobs that you might end up working after having a degree or certificate in culinary training.

Food Scientist

Whenever you go shopping, you can see consumers looking for nutritional facts that are printed on various food products such as the calorie content, protein and etc. These facts help people know the right food to eat. The people who are responsible for generating these facts are the food scientists who continuously develop better technologies for food storage and preparation. Some food scientists started their careers with culinary arts degree while others are into chemistry and microbiology.

Chef

This is the job that usually comes into our minds when we talk about taking a culinary degree or just a simple culinary arts training. A chef's or a cook's job is to create variety of foods for the growing and changing trend of the food industry. Cooks can work anywhere, from their home kitchen to a local fast food store, and to even in an expensive restaurants. People with the passion for food and cooking are those who certainly would take up a degree from a nearby culinary schools in their area or by taking up one of the top cooking schools in the country.

Executive Chef

The executive chef is the manager for the entire operation in the kitchen. He plans for the menu, coordinates the entire staff and manages the preparation of foods, and makes sure that every meal is delivered with consistent presentation and quality. Executive chefs may work in corporate dining establishments, big restaurants, or work for prominent persons. Some others become famous themselves by hosting cooking shows on national televisions.

Sous Chef

The second in command in the kitchen is the sous chef. He shares responsibility with the executive chef by overseeing the operation in the kitchen. The sous chef checks the staffs activities such as slicing, making of desserts, and even training culinary apprentices. Hands-on experiences and management skills are vital tools in becoming a sous chef. An online or on-campus culinary training might be a great advantage in order to master the techniques in running the kitchen smoothly.

Pastry Chef

Making a nice cake and its decoration is a work of a pastry chef or patisserier. He creates cookies, pastries or baked foods and it requires culinary skills in the decoration of desserts for restaurants or special events such as weddings, birthday parties or other special occasions.

Line Cooks

A line cook's job is usually to assist the chef in preparing the meal. Aside from being a chef with special culinary skills, sometimes their basic functions include grilling, frying, or making special desserts.

Restaurant Manager

Restaurant management is one of the challenging jobs in the culinary industry. With the manager's tasks ranging from managing the restaurant staffs, doing inventory such as ordering foods and supplies for the restaurant, and even customer service when sometimes restaurant managers are called upon attention by some customers for various reasons.

Some culinary schools offer management as well as culinary training in order to prepare students in this kind of work. Yet experience is very essential for the job.

Catering

This is another career that a culinary graduate might do. As a caterer, you are responsible for the preparation of foods for parties, banquets, and various occasions such as weddings, birthday celebrations or social functions. This is also a great opportunity for doing your own business offering catering services.
