Why Learn Culinary Arts ?
Once upon a time, you might have heard somebody say they want to take up a course in culinary arts. You’d wonder, why culinary arts? Why not engineering or any of those technical courses which are quite popular with the society of today? What’s in it for a person when they take up these arts?
Understandably, culinary arts sounds so obscure and so add to most people these days. The youth, especially, want courses that give them a chance of being famous, of making a difference or getting a better life than the one they are currently having. All other courses seem to give them a better chance at that.
It would be unfair to say that culinary arts do not offer them a chance at that. In fact, it does. Do you know that chefs and cooks are always in demand? You even have a chance of working overseas as a cook when you hold a degree in culinary arts. Here are just some job opportunities that you can take advantage of as a chef or cook after you graduate from culinary arts:
Cook for a cruise liner. Cruise liners take care of large numbers of visitors and cruisers in every trip they make. As a cook, you are responsible for taking care of the food needs of these people. This is also a good chance for you to travel around the world and perhaps learn a few tricks of the trade aboard a cruise liner.
Be a chef for a reputable restaurant. Nothing beats working as a chef or even just a cook for a very famous restaurant. This is good exposure, since you get to be exposed to how they cook their food and make them delicious. This makes for a good stepping stone for other careers in the future. Besides, if you make such good money and fortune on a restaurant, you probably wouldn’t have to search for another job.
Make yourself a personal cook for a famous person. This can be quite far off, but it can still be possible to work as a personal cook to someone famous as long as you have the determination to believe and the guts to try and make it. That’s only possible if you learn and finish a degree in culinary arts.
Be a famous chef yourself. Some chefs acquire enough experience and knowledge that they can be TV personalities, offering cooking tips and lessons through shows that are aired on television channels.
Teach cooking. Aside from cooking food for restaurants, famous persons, or cruise liners, you can become a cooking instructor and help impart the knowledge and skill of cooking to other people who are aspiring to become like you.
So there you have it. People tend to look down at culinary arts and consider them not as techie or as glamorous as other skills that you can learn. Culinary arts actually give you a chance to do a job that is honorable and noble: you help people have an opportunity to taste good and delicious food.
